Disco Book With Norma Jean Wright

Norma Jean WrightPosted by pocat 2013-01-28 14:35

"The First Ladies Of Disco" is a new book being released this coming summer (you can pre-order on some sites today) which will feature a chapter with the original CHIC Lady, Norma Jean Wright.

She has been interviewed by the author James Arena concentrating mainly on her time at Bearsville Records where she made one album (produced by Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers) and a follow-up single.

The album spawned the R&B top 20 hit "Saturday" (Club #10). The follow-up single "High Society" was also a top 20 R&B hit. But strangely there was no album following "High Society", despite it's success. Maybe we will know more about it, when this book comes out?

Norma, a lovely, articulate woman and accomplished professional from the disco era, provides fascinating details of her time recording with Chic on their debut album and her own solo album in the book FIRST LADIES OF DISCO. She is candid and will open a few eyes as she relates her fascinating experiences. She is one of 29 singers who received chapters in the book in which to relate their amazing career history. She is joined by Gloria Gaynor, Claudja Barry, Madleen Kane, Linda Clifford, Martha Wash, First Choice's Rochelle Fleming and many more. Several industry professionals including Felipe Rose of Village People and remix master Tom Moulton also provide detailed commentary. I think this book, the first of a two part series, will be a must-have for fans of Chic and disco. I hope it will give these women the attention and respect they so richly deserve. As the author, it was a privilege to be able to tell their remarkable stories. The book is available to pre-order now on Amazon and other outlets and will be published Spring 2013 (I don't think we'll have to wait until summer).
